Sharon Brunsher Draft
The draft is an in-between moment—a space where thought is written but not yet defined, born but still evolving. It is an attempt to capture the elusive, to frame the unframeable, to leave a trace of what was and perhaps no longer is.
Sharon Brunsher’s draft is more than an unfinished beginning; it is a state of being, a way of seeing and acting. It is a collection of stains, words, and dots—a kind of diagram of an internal process in which dialogue, emotion, and imagery are woven into a visual language. Brunsher constructs and documents layers of thought, inviting the viewer to witness what seems like a moment of revelation—a structure of trembling lines, erasures, half-visible texts, and traces left behind.
In her work, erasure is not an act of disappearance but of emphasis. It reveals the effort, the struggle between articulation and hesitation, between the desire to define and the fear of fixation. Each layer engages in a dialogue with the previous one, together forming a new space for observation and interpretation.
In this way, the personal and abstract notes acquire a collective dimension. They are not merely records of an intimate creative process but resonate with universal emotions of time, doubt, memory, and forgetting. Brunsher allows the draft to remain open-ended, unfinished—just as thought itself moves, changes, is written, and erased over and over again.
**
Sharon Brunsher was born in 1972 in Ramat Gan. She studied at the Industrial Design Program of theDesign and Architecture Workshop. Brunsher’s journey in the design and art world started in 2005 andcontinues to this day with her eponymous design and lifestyle brand. Since 2013, she has also beenleading the paper brand Papier. Alongside her artistic practice, Brunsher works as a design, creative, andart consultant and curator. In the last years, she has been dividing her life between Israel and France.
Brunsher has always incorporated diverse disciplines in her practice, merging them seamlessly andharmoniously, and marrying passion with a research-oriented approach. She manipulates variousmaterials, playing tricks, and engaging in a dialogue with them using almost lab-like methods that lendthemselves to fascinating and powerful outcomes.
Over the years, her practice focused on the material-body relationship, shying away from trends. In thisexhibition too, she unfolds a story about the material and its relationship with the viewer and the space.
Brunsher creates tension between the conflicting properties of each material: stone versus paper, woodversus a photograph, metal versus writing. The parallel use of diverse materials creates intriguing andversatile combinations and underscores the distinctive properties of each.
In her current exhibition at Mazal Dagim Gallery, Brunsher created a fascinating world where she draws inspiration from all creative disciplines she has worked with, weaving extensivepractice that spans many years into one, contemporary, story.
